The inaugural Street 2 ELITE intro session is complete! We had a great time discussing our FAST program design with participants including strength, power, mobility and stability exercises, which ALL runners (not just elites) should include in their training. What is the Street 2 ELITE program? Well, since you asked…
The purpose of the Street 2 ELITE program is to “prepare runners for the demands of racing so as to optimize performance, maintain consistency of training (i.e. reduce injury risk) and build better athletes-on and off the road.”
The phases of training we include in the program are 1) Foundation, 2) Athletic, 3) Sport-specific and 4) Transition with a specific emphasis for each phase to allow adequate and injury-free progression and improved performance. Why do we want runners to move through these phases? It builds strong, fast and injury-resistant runners who can enjoy a lifetime of running with minimal lay-offs due to injury or overtraining as well as improved performance over the years. The program is based on the method of periodization where each phase has a specific purpose with the end goal of being a complete athlete who can run faster, farther and more consistently.
The program begins with the Foundation phase in which we teach runners how to be strong, stable and mobile enough for the demands of running and in preparation for increases in intensity, volume and/or frequency of training.
Next, we move on to the Athletic phase which includes power, speed, and agility training with the priority of building the runner into a more “complete athlete.”
Then, we progress to the Sport-Specific phase where the main competition happens along with other tune-up races. During this phase we are helping runners stay sharp yet refreshed so they don’t get to the starting line exhausted and burnt out.
Finally, we end with the Transition phase, aka: “preparation for tomorrow.” The name of the game at this time is recovery and being ready for the next training cycle, which includes adjusting the previous training program as necessary to promote improved performance and decrease risk of injury and overtraining.
Contact us today if you’re interested in joining the Street 2 ELITE program! We run the program throughout the entire year depending on when major races occur during the spring and fall. So find out today how you can become the “Complete Athlete” you were meant to be.
“To be a consistent winner means preparing not just one day, one month or even one year—but for a lifetime.”
